The advantages of our machines

Whenever you require uniformly continuous, pulsation free and oil free operation, compact dimensions and easy installation, ask for blowers and exhausters from Continental Industrie.

Quiet

Centrifugal blowers and exhausters are performing very quiet. This is achieved by:

a construction which allows a nearly turbulence free flow of air or gas

an excellent sound attenuation due to the heavy gauge casing

statical balancing of each single impellers and

dynamical balancing of the complete rotor

the adherence of the predefined vibration level

All these measures effect that centrifugal blowers and exhausters with an installed power up to approximately 132 kW in an installed situation (with pipes on both inlet and oulet and without sound-isolating hood) produce a sound pressure level of less than 85 dB (A). Bigger blowers and exhausters exceed this level only slightly and can be sound damped with simple means

Oil-free

The rotating shaft is retained by two bearings mounted outboard, so there’s no contact between rotating and static parts inside the blower (except the shaft seals).

The graphite shaft seals separate the air and gas flow from the bearing housing area. The bearing housings are arranged in a way that there’s an area open to the atmosphere between the sealing and the bearings. This area is designed to cool the shaft.

This means that no grease (in the case of smaller blowers) or oil lubrication (in case of bigger blowers) can infiltrate into the blowers casing.

Availability

The deep groove ball bearings are dimensioned to allow several ten thousand hours of operation time before a replacement is necessary. The bearings can be serviced from the outside without dismantling the blower casing.

A special training for the maintenance staff is not necessary and there are no special tools required.

The operating instructions and maintenance guide supplied with the blowers explain all necessary measures in a simple matter.

Simple

Multistage centrifugal blowers & exhausters from Continental Industrie usually are delivered ready for start-up.

The blower blocs are factory mounted on a base frame together with an electric motor. The transmission unit (transmission by v-belt or flexible coupling) is mounted and adjusted.

The complete unit will be taken through a mechanical test run for several hours to make sure that the amount of work for installation at job-site is minimized.

We deliver complete blower and exhauster units including control units so you can be sure that all components fit to each other

Pulsation free

Due to the construction and operation of our blowers fluctuations of pressure are prevented, as long as the blower is operated above the surge limit.

If operated by a motor with constant rotational speed with constant environmental and operating conditions, pressure and flow capacity should remain constant. If operating conditions are changed for example by opening or closing butterfly valves the pressure will change according to the characteristic curve.

After reaching the operational or design point, where no conditions are changed, the pressure should be constant. Fluctuations or pulsations, which are present with rotary piston blowers (2 or 3 lobe construction), are not possible with centrifugal blowers.

Flexible

The flat characteristic of the curve allows easy adjustments of blower and exhauster performance to different volumetric flow.

Within the range of stable operation the flow or pressure can be adjusted easily by throttling the blower respectively the exhauster. This is done by simple butterfly valves which are installed at the inlet or outlet heads the machine. The butterfly valve produces a differential pressure, which in case of installation at the discharge end, changes the total pressure of the installation depending on the position of the valve.

In case of installation at the inlet side of the blower this creates a new curve underneath the standard performance curve, depending on the position of the butterfly valve.

The operation of a blower or exhauster in the surge area, thus in the lower range left of the end of the standard performance curve, will cause the machine surging or pulsating.

The drive by electric motor and v-belt in many cases allow an adjustment of the blower’s rotational speed and therefore an increase or decrease of the blower’s performance without any expending reconstruction or modification. Centrifugal blowers and exhausters can also be driven by a frequency converter .

Compact

Centrifugal blowers and exhausters have a multistage construction which means two or more impellers are fixed on a shaft and rotate inside a blower’s casing.

The casing is split in vertical segments and is designed in a way that the sucked in gas is led from the outlet of one impeller to the inlet of the next impeller. In principle this has the same effect as arranging several radial fans in series. The multistage construction allows high performance of pressure with a low diameter of the impellers and a more compact design.

For some blower models the rotational speed can be increased up to 6.500 rpm depending on the size and the number of stages. This increases the performance and the pressure ratio and therefore allows more compact units.

Low-maintenance

The rotating shaft is supported by two outboard bearings, so that there is no contact between static and rotating parts inside the casing (except the shaft’s gaskets).

The bearing housings are arranged outside in a way that there is an area open to the atmosphere near the shaft gasket which allows the shafts cooling. In the bearing housings there are standard deep groove ball bearings of well known manufacturers, which can be lubricated from outside. The condition and quantity of the lubrication can depend on the type (grease with smaller blowers or lube oil with bigger blowers) be checked during the operation periodically and can be corrected during smaller standstills.
